Filipino Interior Design Exhibit

Filipino Interior Design Exhibit

I would like to learn more about green interior design, and to see actual samples of it. I visited, a few weeks ago, an exhibit  by some really talented designers from the PSID (Philippine School of Interior Design). It was organized in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA). It was at the Athena Building in Eastwood, Q.C., quite close to the mall. It has a Filipino theme and is aptly named as "Kontempo-Pilipino, Contemporary Interiors: Indigenous Roots".

When they say, indigenous, they mean it: they took inspiration from the culture, crafts, colors, and character of the Ibaloi, Ivatan, Ifugao, Pintados, Kiniray-a, Bantoanon, Batak, Waray-waray, Hiligaynon, Pala’wan, Tausug, Yakan, T’Boli, Maranao, Manobo and Mangyan tribes and interpreted them in the most creative ways. There was fusion of what is modern and contemporary and what is classically native and Filipino.

What I know is that it is important in green building to source your materials locally. While the exhibit wasn't focused on green design, the fact that the materials are from the various Philippine localities, make the showcase, close to green.

I hope you can enjoy the designs in the photos. While they're excellent, it would've been best to be there in the exhibit itself. Sad, I chanced upon it on the last day on the last hour; I had not the chance to spread the word about it. Anyway, here are the photos shared to us by Guanderson Sia.

Coordination of rendered perspectives with site photography;
Image finishing and processing using Photoshop,
including insertion of people, landscaping, furniture, accessories, fixtures, etc.
Strong design and graphic abilities.

After seeing all them, I thought, why have we, Filipinos, been just content copying from our Western models? What we have here is so beautiful and rich. Credit should go to the various designers who enhanced the already wonderful indigenous to wonderful and ingenious.
